The Disability Tax Credit (DTC) is a federal non-refundable tax credit, which also includes a provincial supplement. In Manitoba the provincial supplement is $7,114 for the 2011 tax year. Not only will you get the Federal Disability amount of $7,239, but also the provincial supplement of $7,355 if you lived in Manitoba on December 31st, 2011 and are approved for the Disability Tax Credit. The disability credit amount is multiplied by the lowest marginal tax rate federally and provincially ().
That’s for one year of the disability tax credit. Assuming you meet the eligibility criteria, you can go back ten calendar years to claim the disability tax credit in the years you may have previously missed it. Being able to claim ten years of the Federal Disability amount and Manitoba Disability Tax Credit supplement, could result in a significant disability tax refund of over $16,000 (not including other supplements you could be eligible to receive.)
